Rajasthan is considered one of the jewels of Indian tourism as it attracts some of the highest numbers of foreign tourists every year from all parts of the world. And one of its major attractions is the city of Jodhpur, the land of the Rajputanas; Jodhpur is steeped in glorious history. Capital to perhaps the greatest Rajputana Kingdom in its history, Jodhpur was founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 A.D and from his name the city got its name. Jodhpur is a marvelous place with a rustic charm which is only enhanced by the desert and its glorious history of bravery and royalty.

Jodhpur has received much of its great historical legacy and heritage the Kingdom of Marwar which left it enclosed with boundary walls leaving only six entry and exit points into the city. Today the city is divided into two parts the newer parts lies outside the walled portion of the city which now represents Old Jodhpur. There are many beautiful and interesting tourist attractions all over the city which enthrall many tourists come to its gates. The center piece of Jodhpur’s glorious architecture is the Meherangarh Fort which covers a total area of 5 km and is built atop a hill of 150 meters.


Meherangarh Fort has many a wonderful places inside it such as the Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, museum, Chandan Mahal, Royal Darbar Tukht, and Rang Mahal which together make up the entire fort. The next major tourist attraction of Jodhpur is Jaswant Thada, a splendorous white marble cenotaph which depicts in its walls the history of the Rajputanas. Another very popular tourist attraction is the Umaid Bhavan Palace, which was built in the twentieth century by the then ruler of the region Maharaja Umaid Singh. The palace is stunning in its architecture and grandeur making it a very pleasing sight to the eye.
